Next week the Elf Fantasy Fair is back at castle de Haar in Vleuten and of course I will be there looking like a failed attempted of coolness between all those amazing costumes. This is one of those events that most of my friends enjoy coming too and subsequently it's also an event where we usually meet up in a more casual way as we are all going anyway. Now, for me this is great, I haven't seen most of my friends in more than half a years and this is the perfect opportunity to hang out together for a while. But there is a but.
This is also something where I drag my sister to, because she loves going and she has to go with me because none of her friends are interesting in this kind of thing. Well, she is getting really angry because apparently there are quite a few of my buddies coming to the EFF and my sister doesn't want to be the fifth wheel on the wagon. I know how it feels to be left out, but am I supposed to ignore my friends who I only see once a year?
In my opinion she is luckier than me. She has friends that take her out shopping almost once a month, that call her every now and then, who chat with her on MSN, who do things together on a regular basis. She has a best friend who she can tell a lot to. It is not in my nature to really have a best friend, but it would be nice to have someone special, a friend, to be able to rely on when things are not going so well and the other way around too.
Now it feels like I have to choose between her and my friends. Unfortunately, for me it will always be my friends, they are very special and meeting up is hard enough when everybody is scattered over the world. I wish there would be some way to fix this whole thing, because I hate it that I am making her feel sad and second option and all that. I love going to the EFF with her, but I dearly love my friends too. I could introduce her to my friends but she is not the kind of girl that is that into fantasy, games and alternative music. She isn't even really going to dress up as anything fantasy, I don't think you can call Lara Croft fantasy as in the terms of the actual genre that deals with dragons and knights. Cosplaying Lara fits more into a convention but she really isn't into any of that, too much geekness for her, even though she is reading Lord of the Rings for the second time and is enjoying it.
I have no clue what to do. I have no intention to let my friends down, and especially not me, I need to meet up with my friends to feel a little more human. Half the world just doesn't get me and they do and our crazies fit together. On the other hand I don't want to hurt my sister my hanging out with friends that she doesn't want to meet and who she doesn't care to meet (which hurts me because my friends aren't bad, they are in fact awesome). Best option for is that she gets a new awesome friend who enjoys going to fairs like this.
I suddenly remember that I had promised to go to Castle Fest this year as it is basically around the corner from here. Since I will be moving before the summer, it will be a little bit farther away, as in, it suddenly becomes the other side of the country. My life fails at times!
