The square was not deserted and the mist gave it a horror décor look. She looked at the tower to see what time it was, she had to hurry up to be on time at the Brendan’s Bar. 5:45, she had to hurry up if she wanted to make it, right that moment she saw it. She knew what was wrong, the feeling unexplained threat that lingered, this wasn’t how the town looked when she stepped out of the shop. Smokes was rising above the roofs and behind the houses were large chimneys, black smokes bursting from their mouths, spewing pollution down on the inhabitants of this familiarly strange city under her feet. The sounds she thought hadn’t been there before seemed to grew louder with the realisation that something had gone wrong, a protruding rattling, ticking sound of turning gears and cogs came from everywhere around her, the city was a giant machine, the factory its filth vomiting beak. Alice could not think of anything wise to do, it seemed she had shrunk and the giant monster of a city was after her, so she did the only thing natural, trying to find something where she could hide and put her thoughts back together like a puzzle.
