It looks quite spiffy, doesn't it. It took me all night and I ended up going to bed around 4am, because I did some cooking before starting on the gun. Of course all my parents can say about this burst of creativity is: "You are wasting your money on stupid toy gun!" I completely disagree because I will definitely show it off next dress up occasion I get. Sadly, Castle Fest is not going to happen this year as I am in Italy. Today, I bought another Nerf Gun, this time the Night Fighter and started modding that one too, of course, with different colours.
How I bought it:
This is how you get the gun when you buy it at your local toy store, the ugly yellow and orange included. You have to pull the orange thing on the back and spring will force air out of the front and the little foam dart will shoot out of it, with help of batteries the gun also has a red pointer. These babies are pretty evil shots for toy weapons. Though with this one gravity is a bitch, if you point upwards the dart will just stay put. It just looks almost perfect for a small hand laser gun used to close combat by adventuring time travellers.
The first thing I did is sandpaper everything except the inside, though a lot had to be sandpapered even of some bits of the inside. I used to very harsh sandpaper I found in the cupboard under the stairs. (No there is no boy with round glasses and a lightening scars on his forehead sleeping there, neither does it lead to Narnia) Just sandpapering till all the shine is gone and after that, clean it so there is no dust left on the gun. (I keep typing fun, it might have been fun doing this.)
After that I could spray all the parts that needed to get a different colour with plastic primer so the spray paint would stick. For the colours I had picked red, dark gray metallic and gold. First I sprayed everything black after being done with the primer so that all colours would stick out instead of haven all kind of shades. It also makes it easier if you miss a stop because you won't really see it. After the black comes the red coat and topping that off with some dark silver-ish specks and spots and glitter.
I had to tape off parts that I didn't want red. So on the right there is the part with only the black coating while the left main part already has the red coat sprayed over the black and is taped so the part that need a different colour are not painted. I choose gold and dark silver for the other parts so they stick out and look kind of old and used.
You can see the parts that are sprayed different colours. After drying, thank Wabe for fast drying spray paint, I could reassemble the whole thing and play with it.
