The Past is Never Left Behind

The waters stir and the sun rises
an ink pot drying on a desk
Papers fly out the door by the wind
Yet, nothing seems to move
everything is caught in slow motion
time is standing still as it races by
the clocks go wild and strike the hours
without pause because time will never stop
yet we sit sill as we look out of the window
where the while sheets like birds fly by
and the good news of yesterday is forgotten
drowned by the raging storm of today
our voices may scream in disbelieve
and the silence scratches our skin
the storm reaches out from our heads to the surface
comes down as tears on our face
we drown in out own ocean
we run to dehydrate our mind
still we take the pain on our journey
because the past is never left behind

*Free verse poetry, nevermind anything.
