The tram was booming through my head, like a hangover, unwanted and keeping anyone awake. Or was it just the girl sleeping next to the window, eyes beginning to open, early morning. The darkness has passed away, bright morning light was shining through the curtains and even though the shade of grey and the rain silently covering the streets with sweet kisses from the sky, it felt ok. There was movement at the other side of the room as a Spanish couple had already woken up and after a while the eyes of a hangover friend would peek out over the edge of his bed into mine. Even before the alarm rang the room was awake and filled it with the sound of a early morning and an exciting day.
After breakfast, trying to all sit at one table, cuddling when necessary, the lot went upstairs. We took our time getting ready, waiting for each other in the Port Room (apparently my fingers like to type Porn), being terribly, utterly and easily amused by little Gaz, our dead friend. Outside it would sometimes rain, sometimes the sun would come through, but only for a minute. The weather was typical Dutch for a day, a day in which we were going to have a picnic. We marched out of the hostel together, carrying bags full of food and drinks and the hope that the weather would get better.
In the park, ironically called "Het Park" we found a drier stop under the trees that, unfortunately, wouldn't stay dry for much longer. After a short while the first muffins would come through the trees, looking for what they thought would be the event of the year, besides the Emilie Autumn concerts. The rain would pour down as the muffins dropped by, hiding under umbrella's, hiding from the rain. There was a very distinct difference between the muffins who only came for the IMM picnic and those who had been hanging out at the hostel. You got the big chat group of friend who have known each other for quite a while and those who you talk to but do not really know. Pictures were taking, food was eaten and even the sun popped its head through the clouds to welcome the world.
Friends got lost and even the rescue team had to be called in to find them, even though they had found their way back to the park as two girls were set out to pick them up. The cold from the rain got to people and some would wonder back to the hostel two streets away to warm up. It was decided upon that it was time to head into the centre and grab some food, sitting on unisaur poo, feeding the ducks and leaving only the core behind in Rotterdam waiting for a magical night to happen.
There was booze, there was singing and dancing and lots of talking and apparently making out. Even though the lipsprinkles were inviting and the fact that I kissed the incognito pervert Holly, I didn't get drunk, nor did I make out with anyway. Even though Batman tried to stick her tongue between my lips, I had to refuse as the dark had not yet completely gone and I kept smoking fags to keep the clouds away, it was comforting to sit on the ground, chatting, hugging a good friend and just watching people. The sleep tried to catch up with me as we were nearing early morning and the left over group moved to the kitchen to keep their bodies warm. It was soon too late or early to stay awake and my tired body made its way to the room, to tumble into the rabbit hole and catch some sleep.
Monday morning, a bitter breakfast. Time to say goodbye, while new friends and old friends left to make their ways home I had to leave too, to be in time for work. The tears would fall inside my mind as I knew it would be a long time before I could see them again, perhaps the last time and I would take them all home with me, but we are all just people and nothing can last forever. Bitter. When it was my time to leave there was no sadness anymore, no feelings attached, I just left, along with Seepy and Erica. Making our way to the station, being excited over the possible after party the next weekend. A quick hug and the train would take me home, almost home. Where normal, stressful life was waiting for me.
These reports are dedicated to a few of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life. (+ Purple Legs, Lizzie,Batman and perhaps a few others)
