Who hasn't heard of them, they are all together ooky, the Addams family. Some have grown up with the original series that were on rerun somewhere in their childhood. These days these childhood memories are sold in DVD boxes and cost you a pretty penny, but for that you got the original series, memories, you can re-watch when you want it and as many times as you want it. The original series ran from 1964 till 1966, this inspired an animated series, films and a musical, was it necessary? The Addams family are a family of cooks, who are not aware of their rather unnerving habits and thoughts. Truth is that even though this family sprung for a long line of maniac, witches, con artists and crazies, they are sweet hearted, something the rest of suicide forgets to be when it comes to anything that is unfamiliar. The series was even more beautiful for teaching us the value of family and intellect. Morticia and Gomez were not only preparing their lizardstew but also referenced a lot of literature, important historical events and person, but also the american dream. They were the American dream, but better, they were open-minded and did not purposely hurt anyone.
Then the films came and even though I love Christina Ricci, it is a completely different story, different idea than the original Addams Family. They are not the kind hearted Fez and Gomez that I know for the black and white series, it lacks what made the Addams Family a brilliant series. Instead of being very oblivious about their wierd habits, they knew they stand out in a crowd and instead of trying to help others them seem to be in for a little revenge. Wednesday and Pugsley are really hurting each other instead of playing with each other and acting out the death of their family members. It just does not have the same intelligence, wit or atmosphere. Thank god I got all three seasons of the old b/w series at home and none of the films, because they just do not cut it for me.
